The past flu season was one of the worst in years in South Carolina. According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental control, 271 people dies in SC due to the flu, compared to 94 deaths the previous year and 47 deaths the year before that. Experts blame the strain of flu that was prevalent, as it is a more severe type and the flu vaccine is less effective against that particular strain.
However, the flu vaccine is still the most effective way to protect yourself and your family unless there is a medical reason that prevents a person from taking the vaccine. Even if a vaccinated person contracts the flu, it is often less severe than it would be otherwise. For more data: Greenvilleonline flu story.
