Another hole was found in the deck of a bridge on interstate 77 by inspectors. The Department of Transportation reported two southbound lanes of the I-77 Bridge over the Catawba River in Rock Hill will be closed Wednesday due to emergency repairs.
Construction crews hope to have these lanes re-opened by Monday. While nearly a month ago, work crews fixed a hole in a bridge on northbound lanes.
When the first hole was discovered, it immediately prompted the DOT to inspect all I-77 bridges beginning at the North Carolina state line. Officials have reported that the most recent hole is about eight miles south of the state line.
Over the next couple of days crews will be inspecting I-77 bridges heading south to Columbia to ensure the safety of drivers traveling on this interstate.
