North and South Carolina have suffered tremendous damage from hurricane Florence. Although only a Cat 1 when it made landfall, Florence brought torrential, record-setting rainfall that has flooded a good portion of both states. In times of crisis, people naturally want to help. But unfortunately, many hurricane "charities" are nothing but a fraudulent way to prey upon the good nature of folks.
The Federal Trade Commission has published an article on how to protect yourself and to make sure that your dontaion goes to a legitimate group. Although the article refers to a different hurricane than Florence, the information still applies:
