A senior at Pendleton High School, was injured in an accident when she was hit by a drunk driver.
The driver who was identified by authorities, was charged with a DUI and for driving with open containers. He has been arrested and is being detained in the Anderson County Detention Center.
The victim was injured on Monday night and is undergoing surgery today for the injuries that she suffered. The victims' high school has shared that on her way to celebrate at Dairy Queen with the Pendleton High School girls basketball team, her car was hit in a head-on collision.
There are many common causes of car accidents in South Carolina. Drivers who drink and drive, and who then cause accidents are among the most negligent drivers. While accidents caused by snow or unforeseen circumstances may be inexcusable, there is not justification for driving while intoxicated.
The victim sustained serious injuries when the drunk driver's pickup truck crossed the center line on Highway 76 near Summers Lane. Indeed, the drunk driver is fortunate he did not kill the young high school student, or he would be facing criminal charges.
