According to the National Fire Protection Association, Christmas tree fires caused an annual average of 6 civilian deaths, 16 civilian injuries, and $14.8 million in direct property damage. Although Christmas tree fires are not common, when they do occur, they are much more likely to be deadly than most other fires.
Fortunately, there are several things you can do to reduce the liklihood of a Christmas tree fire. The American Christmas Tree Association gives the following advice: Safety Tips. The NFPA also has a safety tip fact sheet that can be found here: NFPA Safety.
Enjoy the holiday season, but place take a few moments to make sure your decorations are safe.
