Do You Know If Your Vehicle Has Been Recalled?
Posted on behalf of Harbin & Burnett on Aug 22, 2014 in Auto Accidents
Hardly a week goes by where a car manufacturer does not announce another round of recalls. In 2014, over 45 million vehicles have been recalled and there are still four months left in the year. The sheer number of recalls makes it very difficult to determine whether a specific vehicle has been recalled or not.
On August 19, 2014, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) took serious steps to help consumers quickly, reliably and easily identify recalled vehicles and their safety history. The NHTSA has launched a recall identification website that uses Vehicle Identification Numbers to determine whether a vehicle has been recalled or not.
All of the automakers are required to provide recall data to the NHTSA dating back 15 years stating whether a car has been recalled or not and whether it was ever fixed or not. The car companies are also required to provide a space on their own websites that permits consumers to a VIN recall search.
Car owners and used car buyers should consult the recall VIN website to determine whether they are driving a vehicle with a safety defect or not. The site will be updated on a weekly basis and car owners should check frequently to ensure that their vehicles are not effected by new and emerging recall notices.
