With Thanksgiving just around the corner, now is a good time to review food safety tips in preparing your holiday turkey. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, "Food handling errors and inadequate cooking are the most common problems that lead to poultry-associated foodborne disease outbreaks in the United States." Improper thawing of a turkey is one of the most common errors. Turkeys should be thawed in the refrigerator, not on a kitchen counter. To give yourself ample time to thaw your turkey, it is recommended that you purchase your bird this weekend.
