Greenville Middle Academy Students Involved in Accident

Five charter buses were retained by administrators at Greenville Middle Academy to transport students. The students were traveling across state lines on a field trip to the Atlanta Aquarium when some of the buses became involved in an accident on March 3.
On Tuesday morning, just outside of Atlanta on Interstate 85, three of the five charter buses were involved in an accident. The three charter buses were carrying students in the sixth grade and the crash occurred near the Lenox road exit.
The accident was first reported by a spokesman for the Greenville County Schools, Oby Lyles. Lyles also reported that all of the parents of the students involved in the accident were being notified by both phone and email.
Emergency medical personnel examined all of the students and staff onboard the charter buses. No serious injuries were reported, although several students complained about being sore. Those parents received special notifications about the well-being of their children.
The students were transported to the aquarium by the other two charter buses that were not involved in the accident. More than 229 students attended the field trip. The charter company, Janes Buses, immediately dispatched an additional three buses to help transport the students on the return trip home.
Investigators suspect that the accident was caused by the driver of a vehicle who illegally pulled into the carpool lane. That driver was ticketed. One of the drivers was also ticketed for tailgating other cars and failing to leave sufficient room in between the vehicles.
Reckless drivers who fail to follow traffic laws endanger both themselves and everyone on the road. While no serious injuries were reported in this accident, it could have potentially been catastrophic.
Drivers who do not stay within their proper lanes confuse all of the other drivers on the road and provide them with very little time to react to the illegal lane changes.
Parents whose children are injured in the charter bus accident may have a legal claim against the charter company as well as the driver who was ticketed for pulling into the carpool lane.
