SC High School Mock Trial Competition starts Saturday
This Saturday, students from 48 South Carolina High Schools will compete in the SC Bar Mock Trial Competition in 5 regions located throughout the state. Schools represent either the prosecution or defense in a fictional murder trial and the students take on the roles of attorneys, witnesses, baliffs, and timekeepers. Each team will compete in three trials and the Judges are actual judges or lawyers with the SC Bar. Each team also has a teacher/coach and an attorney/coach. All attonreys and judges volunteer their time and the students spend months in preparation. 12 teams will advance to the finals, to be held in Columbia.
Harbin & Burnett are proud to support this program. Our attorneys, Jennfier Burnett, serves as an attorney/coach for a local high school and Larry Welborn also assists a local school, serving as a judge during scrimmages and he will be an attorney/coach during the competition Saturday.
