While driving back to Anderson from a hearing I had in Greenville, I passed under an information sign, the ones that warn of traffic congestion, Amber alerts, etc.
The sign read "Traffic Fatalities in SC this year: 372. Please drive safely" or something similar. I don't know how that compares to last year, but it is ahead of the pace set in 2015. Traditionally, the summer months see a higher number of both fatal and non-fatal wrecks with July and August tending to be the worst months. Shortly after passing the sign on I-85, a vehicle veered into my lane then sharpely swung back into the original lane of travel. Fortunately, I was far enough behind to avoid a wreck. As i overtook the other vehicle, I saw the driver was texting or emailing on the phone. Distracted driving is a major cause of accidents. And completely avoidable.
Do not text and drive. Do not put on make-up and drive. Do not watch videos and drive. Do not read a newspaper and drive. I have witnessed all four of these take place within the last several weeks on I-85 in South Carolina. Do any of these and you are an accident waiting to happen.
