About a month ago, we posted on the dangers of crossing railroad tracks and the need to carefully look in both directions. Unfortunately, yesterday a woman walking in Greenville was struck by a train and killed. At this point, there are no witnesses and authorities do not know why she was on the tracks. For more information: Woman struck by train.
Harbin & Burnett again urge all motorists and pedestrians to use extreme caution when crossing railroad tracks. Never assume a track is disused. Always obey any crossing control devices. Never go around barriers. Never take photographs while standing on the tracks. Trains can suddenly appear due to their speed and have no way of stopping quickly.
